Meanwhile, in Florida, Trumaine Lamar has seemingly dominated the underground soul scene with his September ’12 released single “Girlfriend” remaining relentlessly afloat.

Even between EP projects, “Things I Should Have Told Her” and the more recently released “Analog Digital – the up coming vocalist/producer managed to satisfy his sprouting fan base with the flirty, fun tune he titles ‘Girlfriend‘. But the traditionally self-sufficient soul man was not without assistance this time around.

A recognisable melody serves upon verses, duplicating the Melvin Reily Jr. original “Love You Down” (1986). Even in the song’s renewal, Lamar was not the first to attempt – twice bypassed by musical greats none other than Inoj and Me’shell Ndegeocello. None the less, Lamar succeeds ripe flavour paired with an unexpected twist that divides his work, from any priors as well as the 80’s smash hit.

To date Lamar’s faithful followers remain enthusiastic in response to the almost one year old single. One fan reacts to Girlfriend’s twisted plot on the singer’s SoundCloud: “So this ENDING was diseased!! I HATE you with ALL the love I can muster!” from ‘N.I.K.K.I. da Jukebox’, just one of many contributors.
