Kxng Crooked formerly known as Crooked I , who is also  a member of supergroup Slaughterhouse recently released the audio visual for  “Don’t Close Your Eyes (Ashamed)”.

Kxng Crooked has experienced  trials and tribulations in the form of alcoholism , depression and suicide.  Kxng Crooked opened up about his life in the Jonathan Hay and AJami produced track entitled ”Don’t Close Your Eyes (Ashamed)”. For Kxng Crooked to reveal glimpses of  his struggles does not make him vulnerable but a man who is willing to show that through it all you can overcome the latter.

Kxng Crooked I and Truth Ali rap effortlessly over a seamless Jonathan Hay and A Jami produced instrumental.  If you are a true hip hop disciple you will definitely understand that this is  real and quality music in a current climate of mediocrity.

We had the chance to catch  up with Kxng Crooked to chat about the recent name change and find out more about the collaboration with Jonathan Hay ,  Ajami and Truth Ali.

Hi. How are you?

I’m good. Thanks for asking.

How come you changed your name to Kxng Crooked?

Evolution…everything has to evolve. But evolve into what? For me it’s evolving into a KXNG! You have to tell the universe who you are. I’m KXNG CROOKED.

What was it like to work with Jonathan Hay and Ajami on the single “Don’t Close your Eyes (Ashamed)”?

It’s always a dope vibe in the studio with Jonathan and the team. We come up with crazy ideas on the spot and create songs like “Ashamed”… songs that reflect real life. This is only the beginning.

Do you ever feel that in the hip hop world too many people give this aura of invincibility?

A lot of rappers are some of the best actors in the world. They play the role of someone who’s untouchable, and fans eat it up. Maybe that’s the reason — they’re afraid of being their true selves in the eye of the public. Nobody is invincible. Nobody. We all have weaknesses. We’re only human. I’m 100% honest with the fans.

It takes real strength to admit your struggle with depression, suicide and alcoholism. I really admire that! How do you feel once you made it public?

It feels good to get positive feedback from people who say the song helps them with their similar struggles. Music is a healer, both for the musician and the listener.

If you could give advice to anyone struggling with these issues what would be your advice to them?

Find something worth living for and never give up the fight.
