“Numb to NYC” is a break-up song, but not in the ways you’d expect. Singer-songwriter and producer Sam Bierman is saying goodnight, at last, to the city that never sleeps. The synth-speckled beat casts a sparkling mist over the track, but Bierman’s lyrics ask us to take off our rose-tinted glasses and face the truth. “There’s not a point in winning / If it means I go insane / Maybe I don’t have it in me / Think I’m numb to New York City”, he sings. It’s a song that perfectly captures the highest of highs and the lowest of lows in his two, vibrant years of living there. In an age of illusion, it dares to be honest.
