Review | Azekel – ‘Circa’ (EP)

If you’re looking for a fresh new sound which effortlessly fuses, RnB, soul and sonic sounds look no further than Nigerian-born East Londoner Azekel. Azekel otherwise known as Azekel Adesuyi is a truly talented, up and coming artist. Circa certainly proves that his musical attack comes from all directions.

The singer, songwriter and producer’s latest EP ‘Circa‘, is guaranteed to leave you wanting more. The EP, consisting of 5 great tracks is described as a “collection of memories circa 2003 to 2013”. Whilst Azekel is bluntly real in his lyrics, to say his production is impressive is an understatement. Through some unique sampling, the tracks allows us to hear pockets of flashbacks in time, to recreate a sound that places us at the time of reference to reflect Azekel’s memories. This translates into an EP that with amazing sonic sounds, which are highly refreshingly and deeper than many of the textbook programmed beats we hear so frequently today in urban music.

Despite his awesome production skills, Azekel called on the help of Blacksmif to assist him on “Be Mine ’03.” The artist who cites Prince and Marvin Gaye as some of his musical heroes has been compared to the sounds of The Weeknd, and Frank Ocean which is echoed on tracks such as “In The Zone ‘13”.

The EP shows the depths of Azekel’s creativity and his great potential to go so much further. Circa certainly makes his increasing following hungry to hear his future projects.

‘Circa is available to purchase on iTunes now.|||
