Review | Jae Ward – ‘Closer’ (EP)

‘Closer‘ is the first solo project released from Florida’s very own R&B/Gospel artist Jae Ward.

Jae Ward’s debut release is something like a gospel goodie bag. Opening with a jazzy composition titled ‘Free‘ ft. Faith complete with keys on loop, scattered high hats and a walking bass line.

Ward’s vocals sound to be at home, that is until the eclectic worship musician proves his ministry can reside amongst various genres. Track two quickly intercedes with a traditional upbeat gospel piece – none short of a harmonious choir titled ‘Lord Use Me’, perfect for those who favour classic Baptist church flamboyance.

The second half of the project comes with controversy but what’s a gospel album without redemption? “I was sick of all the preaching and the teaching and the elders laying hands but I was still the same demon” – A line from a more prominent track that Ward has strategically titled ‘Jesus’.

Jae Ward demonstrates unique delivery and has the ability to transcend boundaries. He’s modern approach will allow him to connect with an audience regardless of their faith. |
