Dutch multi-hyphenate Luwten takes her name from a word in her native language which simply means ‘place without wind’. Her latest single, “Sleeveless”, a forerunner for second album Glass, is similarly suspended in motion; it’s a song that, with its melody and soul, offers a sanctuary from the world beyond. It’s understated, and yet it draws on so much: Luwten’s vocals are feather-light and fluid, often restless and colliding with harmonies, lacing organic sounds with live instruments and electronic touches. “Sleeveless” is an effortlessly brilliant example of abstract pop.
